Master Wines is a family wine company owned and operated by Mel, Charlie and Janie Master. Their highly successful brands include Tortoise Creek from California, Le Charmel, Exem and Mont Gravet from France and Tiamo from Italy. Mel Master became one of the foremost authorities on the wines of Southern France while living there in the 1970s. He coauthored the first major work on these wines and was the first person to introduce the wines of Georges Duboeuf to the USA . After moving to California he and his wife Janie took on marketing for the new Jordan Winery in Sonoma. In 1998 he began Tortoise Creek Wines from California and Tiamo organic wines from Italy. Masterwines, which is now run by Mel and his son Charlie, owns Tortoise Creek and Tiamo brands as well as their newest wine lines from France called Le Charmel (Charlie and Mel), Mont Gravet and Exem Bordeaux. Tortoise Creek offers an outstanding line of varietal wines that were sourced from vineyards predominately in the Lodi region of California with an emphasis on sustainable farming. Montgravet comes from vineyards located in the Gascony region, near the city of Toulouse in the South West of France.
